PROTECTING YOUR ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT
Its our recommendation that you use Rubber Cement as the magic ingredient to protect electronics from the moisture problems that must occur with outdoor environments. Items such as circuit boards, switch machines, metal contact parts, and accessory connections can all benefit from the application of rubber cement.
Rubber Cement is available in many outlets such as stationary stores, supermarkets, art stores, variety stores and hopefully in the future hobby shops. Rubber Cement does not harm electronic boards yet is the perfect sealant. Additionally, Rubber Cement is easily removed by peeling off or with the use of a solvent such as nail polish remover.
Aristo-Craft recommends that electronic boards such as our remote accessory device be removed from its case and dipped totally in rubber cement and replaced when dry. Also, the joining lines around the protecting cases should have a coating applied by brush as well as the openings where electric wires exit the case.
We strongly recommend that Aristo-Craft switch contact metal plates be liberally coated after the wires are attached and also the switch machine plastic case seals should be protected in the same manner.
Please note that this recommendation is only for D.C. devices and is not suitable for devices that have A.C. current input and should not be out of doors in the first place. In all circumstances, the power supply should be indoors and only D.C. output wires should be allowed out. This is why we make out larger power supplies in split units with a separate D.C. only controller for outdoor use or the Train Engineer Controller.
Please check your applications every six months to insure that the coating is intact, and add more Rubber Cement as needed.
While environmental problems differ according to region, we believe this method will be a good solution in most cases.
