Steel Box
Cars gained popularity in the 1940's after
damage-prone Wood Box Cars fell out of favor. Although
costly to construct, Steel Box Cars quickly became the
industry standard because of their strength, low
maintenance cost, and long lifespan. Box Cars, in
general, are also known for being 'billboards on
wheels' with their beautifully painted ends and
sides.
